A group of volunteers was called together to form a Building Committee, officially authorised to act on behalf of the DFVP.
When planning a residential facility for senior persons in such a way that they can live in the best possible independent way, their special needs must be taken into consideration. For this reason the Building Committee started off by compiling a list of relevant needs. This list included items such as user friendly single lever taps for older hands, hand grips and rails on baths and toilets, fold away seats and foot rests in the shower, built-in kitchen with connections for dishwasher and washing machine, TV and satellite connections, modern telephone system, internet connection, modern light switches and sockets.
Apartments were built in three sizes, with one or two bathrooms and one or two bedrooms according to size,
and each with a 10m² balcony and a parking space in the basement.
• 16 apartments - 60m²
• 12 apartments - 70m²
• 45 apartments – 80m²
DSW has a dining room, conference hall, library, a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry with washing machine and dryer, a gymnasium with swimming pool and apparatus, sauna and change rooms and in the basement a rest area for staff and a workshop for handymen.
A diesel generator also ensures that the building and surrounding are not left in the dark in the event of a power failure.
On the 21 November 2015 DSW celebrated their 10th birthday and face the future with confidence in accordance to their motto “Active with Leisure”.
